About Holland America Line

Holland America Line stands for classic cruise experiences with superb food and excellent service. The standard may be compared with competitors such as Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises. Though becoming increasingly popular Holland America Line is still an insider tip in Europe. With its international guests and English as the sole onboard language we recommend travelers to have a fairly good command of the English language to make the cruises a pleasant experience.

The Ship

The Westerdam was commissioned in 2004. With a length of 290 meters and a maximum capacity of 1,916 guests she provides exceptionally much space per traveler – for comparison: ships of Costa Cruises or Carnival Cruise Lines with a similar size accommodate about 700 people more on board. A crew of 817 people takes care of all the guest’s needs. The theme of the ship’s art collection is the dutch heritage in the New World.

All staterooms are spacious, comfortably equipped and provide enough storage room for your luggage. Even the smallest inside staterooms have a size of 16 square meters and come with a sofa, a small table and a desk. All staterooms are equipped with a flatscreen TV and a DVD player. Exterior cabins have at least 17 square meters. Cabins with balcony provide 23,5 square meters of space. Exterior and balcony staterooms do both feature bath-tubs. The suites with a size of at least 39 square meters additonally feature fresh flowers. From “Deluxe Veranda Suite” upwards a concierge-service, free laundry service, hors d’oeuvres a dinner with the ship’s high ranking officers and much more are included.

Premium mattresses and bed linen as well as several pillow choices are the basis for good sleep. Beds can always be arranged as doubles or twins. Bathing robes are provided in all cabins for the time of the cruise. If you wish a gratuitous basket with fruits, it will it be brought to your cabin and will be refilled as well. Shoe cleaning service is free of charge.

Atmosphere on board

Although the Westerdam is a modern ship, it is – like all of Holland America Line’s vessels – a “classic cruise liner” and not a “party ship”. Therefore guests are not the youngest in average – even though families with children are definitely also welcome. On about two nights per week formal “black tie” evenings are held. Participation is not a must though – guests have the possibility to dine in alternative locations where more casual clothing is sufficient.

Food and Beverages

The superb cuisine is surely one of the highlights of every cruise with Holland America Line. Guests can spontaneously choose to dine à la carte in the main restaurant or in the buffet restaurant. For a surcharge the “Pinnacle Grill” or the Asian style “Tamarind” are additional options with culinary highlights.

Entertainment, Sports and Relaxation

You can choose from a broad variety of onboard activities such as yoga, swimming, spa practices, having a drink in the bar or sitting down somewhere just reading a book. In the evenings entertaining shows and live-music are performed. Based on so many options everyone can create his individual favourite entertainment.

The Greenhouse Spa invites you into a heavenly beauty paradise. You can enjoy different treatments such as massages, manicure and pedicure. In contrast to this relaxing programme you are able to join some sport courses like yoga and pilates or using the gym machines.

Furthermore the Culinary Arts Centre offers cooking courses for people of every age.
