About Norwegian Cruise Line
Travelling with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is synonymous to informality and liberty. NCL names their concept “Freestyle Cruising”. There are no classic “first and second seatings” for dinner – just feel free to dine whenever and where you like. Choose from a variety of à la card or buffet restaurants and enjoy the casual atmosphere throughout the ship. No wish for “black tie evenings”? Then NCL just suits you fine. Here is no constraint. The guests on Norwegian Cruise Line’s ships are an interesting international mix and English is the main onboard language – though usually not the only one.
The Pride of America entered service in 2005 and was the first US-flagged cruise ship for several decades. Originally planned to be completely built in the USA she was towed to Germany where she was not only finished but also lengthened. She now has a length of 281m and can accommodate up to 2,186 passengers. Refurbished in 2013 the Pride of America now features luxurious suites and some studio staterooms for single travellers. As a US-flagged ship the Pride of America is allowed to have a routing that includes the Hawaiian Islands only.
Atmosphere on board
Like on all of NCL’s ships the atmosphere is very casual. For example the only dress-code for the main restaurants is “no shorts and no swim-wear”. Nevertheless, if you love to wear a festive attire, just feel free to do it – or even attend one of the festive evenings offered in selected restaurants. NCL offers holidays that are perfectly suited for the younger (or young in mind) as well as families. Though you will find lots of sportive and fun activities and will surely have a chance to party at night you can also find quiet and calm places to relax and unwind.
All staterooms are tastefully decorated and provide enough space. While interior cabins offer approximately 12m² of space exterior cabins provide about 13m² and cabins with balcony 17m². Beds in interior and exterior cabins stand seperately while the extra beds in cabins for triple and quadruple occupancy are usually foldaway upper beds. For single travellers there are four studio cabins with 10m² available. If more space is preferred the different types of suites may be an option. They offer 33 to 128,5m².
Food and Beverages
As dining options the Pride of America offers 13 different restaurants, bistros and cafés as well as pizza delievery service. For some of the specialty restaurants an additional fee is charged; these include the steakhouse, a French restaurant, a Tex-Mex restaurant and several more. Across the ship guests enjoy 8 different bars and lounges. A highlight is the “Aloha Café”, whose atmosphere is characterized by a pink Cadillac. You sit during your snack on original Cadillac seats.
Entertainment, Sports and Relaxation
The cruise line offers a variety of entertainment program, amongst those are activities like theme parties to hula hula classes. One of the main attractions in the evening is the “Hollywood Theater” where glamorous shows are entertaining the guets every night. Thanks to the many choices everyone will quickly find his or her favorite bar and lounge or may even go dancing at the night club. Minors have their own clubs and space for themselves, supervised and tailor-made for their respective age.
You enjoy sports? Enjoy the large and modern fitness area, go running on the jogging-track, test your senses in the gyrosphere, play Basketball or Volleyball, improve your golf on the driving range or go. If you prefer to relax, indulge in the numerous spa treatments, feel young after a visit to the beauty parlour or check out one of the six whirlpools. Whatever you are looking for – the Pride of America will most likely have it.
